Heshun -

En route I was advised to go visit a historic village, Heshun. Lying in the south west of Yunnan province it is a former border town with Burma and therefor has always been prosperous. It is indeed quite beautiful but there is a catch. Since most old things in China have been distroyed by the developement-machine this last standing village has now come a sort of Mecca for history seeking tourists. Most of them Chinese. You have to pay to walk the few old streets in a crowd of photo-snapping asians and everything feels sort of half fake. By comparison, Venice is a hundred times more interesting and for free. Later I will find that everything half worth seeing has a pricetag around here. Buildings, temples, forests, mountains. Everything. And people flock in their thousands...
